Joel Fischer is a freelance photographer currently living in Denver, Colorado. Born and raised on beer and cheese in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he learned to take photos to keep himself occupied during long family road trips, which also gave him an early appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the American landscape. Joel has continued to travel throughout the world – most recently to Siberia and Bolivia.
With a background in the physical sciences as well as journalism, Joel has an active sense of curiosity, and it is this inquisitive spirit that has been the driving force behind his photography as well. Deeply passionate for long-term documentary projects, he is drawn to stories that create strong narratives with an intent to spark discussion on social, political and ecological issues.
Never far from his heart, the mountains have fostered a deep reverence for the environment and a healthy enthusiasm for adventure sports such as mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, and backcountry skiing.
